Welcome to Agoura-Woodland Hills
Pony Club's Home Page

Welcome to the Agoura-Woodland Hills Pony Club, part of the Camino Real Region (Located in Southern California). AWHPC is a charter member of the United States Pony Clubs. Like other Pony Clubs, we are an educational organization that teaches riding, mounted sports and the care of horses and ponies, and develops in youth the characteristics of responsibility, moral judgment, leadership and self-confidence. What makes our club different from other Pony Clubs is that we run our own barn and have our own beautiful facilities. We are located in Agoura, California, just outside of Los Angeles Area. Our facilities consist of two acres, a co-op barn consisting of 30 stalls, 2 dressage rings, an enclosed jumping arena, a cross-country course, and adjacent parkland.

Our board consists of a District Commissioner, a Joint-District Commissioner, a Secretary and a Treasurer.

Recently we elected our 2008 board. They are:

MORE about AWHPC

AWHPC is composed of: PonyClubbers, Parents, Sponsors, Boarders, and Friends of Pony Club.

Active Ponyclubbers are required to pay the quarterly dues which entitles them to attend both mounted and unmounted lessons and to participate in rallies and regional events.

The sponsors of AWHPC are parents and/or guardians of our Pony Clubbers or an active adult in our program concerned about our Ponyclubbers. Only Sponsors are entitled to a vote at meetings. All parents are encouraged to become sponsors.

Our Friends of Pony Club are adults who contribute a yearly donation as well as contribute their time at our fund raisers for the privilege of using our grounds. They have no vote at our meetings. They are not covered by USPC insurance and use the grounds at their own risk. They must sign an Release form.

MEMBERSHIP

Pony clubbers are children under 21 years of age as of January 1 of the current year. Beginner members should be able to walk, trot and guide their mounts independently before joining.

To be a member in good standing, Pony clubbers must pay quarterly dues and all fees on time and remain current on the National role.

If interested in membership, please contact D.C.

PONY CLUB MOUNTS

AWHPC does not provide mounts....All ponyclubbers are responsible for their own.

What is a Pony Club Mount??
A Pony Club "pony" is not necessarily a pony at all. Pony Clubs use "pony" in the British sense meaning any mount ridden by a junior. There are Pony Club ponies that are 17 hands high; that's not so little. For competitions, there are age limits, however. Horses and ponies used at rallies must be at least five years old. A horse is considered to be one year old on January 1, following the date of foaling. Stallions are not generally considered suitable mounts. All mounts are required to be healthy and sound.

PONY CLUB PARENTS

Pony Club parents are really the most important participants in all of our Club activities. When you join AWHPC, here is what will be expected from you -- the parents.

Attending Meetings
We look forward to parent participation at meetings. Not everyone, of course, can or wants to be an officer, but your ideas and suggestions are very much needed and appreciated.
Work Parties
This means clean up of the Club grounds (scheduled monthly), setting up for shows, painting, maintenance, etc. (talk with Barn Manager about scheduling).
Fund Raisers
We always need help on these -- including working in the show, helping to set up jumps, assisting in the registration booth, ring crews, etc. EVERYONE is expected to help.

RATINGS

Your child joins Pony Club as an unrated member and progresses through the lower level ratings (D1 through C2). The C3 is a regional rating, and the B, H-A and A are national ratings, adminstered by the National Testing Committee. Here is a brief overview of each level:

D Ratings
This is an introduction to the fun and challenge of riding, establishing a foundation of safety habits and knowledge of the daily care of a pony and tack. The D1 through D3 learns to ride independently and with control, maintaining a reasonable secure position at the walk, trot and canter, and over low fences.
C Ratings
Pony clubbers learn to become an active horseman, to care independently for pony and tack and to understand the reasons for what he or she is doing. The 'C' shows development towards a secure, independent seat, and increasing control and confidence in all phases of riding.

B Ratings
The 'B' rating is for the Pony Clubber who is interested in acquiring further knowledge and proficiency in all phases of riding and horse care.

A Ratings
The 'A' rating is the highest and is divided into two parts: 'H-A' covers horse management, teaching and training, and 'A' tests the riding phase. This is given at the National level only.

Some of the things we learn at pony club are: Dressage, Stadium Jumping and Cross Country... just to name a few.
